Once home to Berlin’s punk rock movement, the Kreuzberg neighbourhood in the German capital now witnesses the encounter of all kinds of cultures and identities through its colourful array of street entertainment, music, restaurants, cafés, museums, and galleries. The borough still embraces its non-conformist past by presenting creative and strong ideas around every corner, and thus, the world-renowned Tim Raue Restaurant could not have chosen a better place to reside.

Born in the German capital, chef Tim Raue grew up in the very same neighbourhood the restaurant is now located. He built his gastronomical career from the ground up, starting with an apprenticeship in a nearby district and rapidly growing into higher positions. He worked in various restaurants, and opened some of his own, being eventually awarded with a Michelin Star and 18 points from Gault Millau. Such a career took him to open Tim Raue in 2010 alongside his business partner, Marie-Anne Wild, who specializes in a relaxed but high-level brand of hospitality.

The restaurant, awarded two Michelin Stars and the only German restaurant in World’s 50 Best in 2019, serves Asian-inspired cuisine, motivated by Raue’s travels around the Asian continent, allowing for a fusion of Japanese, Thai, and Chinese flavours, and aromas. Tim Raue strives towards creativity, uniqueness, and freedom, attributes which he seeks to present in all aspects of the experience, which is constantly described as attentive and unpretentious, paired with the simple yet elegant interior design of the establishment, reminiscent of the urban atmosphere of Berlin, though maintaining the rough character of the Kreuzberg district.

Time Raue’s philosophy aims for his cuisine to release energy to the body rather than stress it, and thus, elements such as bread, pasta or rice are absent from the dishes. Maintaining this healthy aspect, the kitchen only uses lactose-free dairy products and offers a vegan set menu option as well. The restaurant’s highlight is the “KRUG Table”, a private saloon with a carefree ambience for up to 10 guests in the VIP ROOM in which individually created menus paired with a dozen different champagnes from KRUG are enjoyed. Tim Raue also offers private dining, in an area illuminated in such a way that resembles the Hong Kong skyline and set menus are offered with wine pairings.

Tim Raue is a stop you should not miss when visiting Berlin. Let yourself be enveloped in this unique experience where top-notch ingredients are used in great precision and create a dance full of flavour in every plate, which, accompanied by the friendly and attentive service, is sure to provide you with a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
