Limited to just 25 units, this collection is a celebration of the rarity and beauty found in Rolls-Royce Private Collections. It captures the magic of a celestial alignment, showcasing the brand’s commitment to ambition and excellence. The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective, comprising designers, engineers, and artisans, has meticulously crafted these motor cars with exquisite details, elevating contemporary craftsmanship.
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, expressed his pride in presenting these motor cars to 25 of their most significant clients worldwide, individuals who inspire greatness within the brand and drive them to create ever more bold and richly detailed expressions of modern luxury.
The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection draws inspiration from the rare and captivating phenomenon of a total solar eclipse. It captures the interplay of light and darkness, replicating the awe-inspiring moment when the Moon completely obscures the Sun. The purity of the Rolls-Royce Ghost, infused with the subversive Black Badge spirit, offers a canvas for limitless creativity, symbolizing the beauty of this celestial wonder.
These highly bespoke motor cars, limited to just 25 examples, coincide with the annular solar eclipse visible in parts of the Western Hemisphere on October 14.
The motor car’s exterior boasts a Lyrical Copper finish, capturing the mysterious and ethereal light of a total solar eclipse. This bespoke finish incorporates powdered copper pigment, producing a rich and dramatic iridescence when caught in the light. Mandarin accents adorn the Pantheon Grille inserts and brake callipers, recalling the intense pulses of sunlight during the eclipse’s progression. The hand-painted coachline features a delicate abstract representation of the transition from sunlight to darkness as the Moon approaches the Sun, all in the same Mandarin hue.
The Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis features a bespoke Starlight Headliner with a special animation that replicates the totality of a solar eclipse, providing a true sense of awe and wonder. As the coach doors close and the engine starts, the ‘stars’ in the Starlight Headliner darken and create a mesmerizing sequence. A circle of 940 ‘stars’ forms the bright corona of light around the lunar silhouette, surrounded by 192 illuminating ‘stars,’ recreating the spectacle of stars visible in the sky during daylight, a phenomenon unique to a total solar eclipse. This animation lasts precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds, the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse.
The illuminated fascia features 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. A bespoke designer meticulously adjusted the size and position of each ‘star’ over 100 hours to create the mesmerizing effect. The composition culminates in a bespoke timepiece inset with a 0.5-carat diamond, reminiscent of the ‘Diamond Ring’ effect during a solar eclipse. This is the first time a gemstone has been integrated into a Rolls-Royce clock’s bezel, undergoing rigorous adhesion tests. The timepiece showcases contemporary craftsmanship with over 14 design iterations.
The beauty of a 360-degree sunset observed during a solar eclipse is captured in the bi-coloured seats of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis. Over 200,000 individual perforations create a unique perforated artwork on bold Mandarin leather, revealing a contrasting colour beneath, resulting in extraordinary depth and subtlety. Illuminated tread plates, umbrellas with Mandarin piping in the coach doors, and a unique indoor motor car cover complete this bespoke masterpiece.
All 25 examples of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection have been reserved for clients around the world.
