Excellent drinks require excellent procedures to create a proper, perfect beverage. The ultimate experience is not over with the drink itself, but rather takes into account the decanter, the packaging, and the liquor’s history. Few producers in the world have the care to create this aesthetic experience in full, considering every detail along the process of creating a product of excellence. As such, the French house Louis XIII rises among all others, creating a cognac rich in prestige and quality that achieves an ultimately perfect equilibrium in every step of the process.
Conceived as a long-term project, Louis XIII cognac is the result of the efforts of several generations of master winemakers coming together into a single bottle. Founded in 1974, the brand uses over 1200 eaux-de-vie, all of which originate in Grande Champagne, in Cognac, making this an authentic cognac by definition. Every detail is taken into consideration, perfection is the rule in this House where even the decanters and bottles are made by hand by master glass blowers.
By the end of 2020, Louis XIII presented a unique special edition: The Louis XIII Time Collection: Tribute to City of Lights-1900, which demonstrates all of the drink’s best qualities. This limited edition consists of 2000 numbered decanters, and celebrates the year 1900, when Paris hosted the Exposition Universelle, which celebrated the arts and the technological advances of the era.
In addition to the liquor’s excellent quality, which is, as usual, elaborated from the best eaux -de-vie from the André Hériard Dubreuil cellar, the decanter for this edition is a precious blown glass jewel made by The Cristallerie of Saint-Louis, a French house that preserves the ancient savoir-faire. This exquisite decanter is inspired by an antique bottle found in the Jarnac battlefield in 1569, with special details that distinguish it from the usually presented by Louis XIII. On the sides, 13 teeth are displayed instead of the usual 10, while the cap is fashioned after an upside-down decanter. The body is covered in seven fleurs-de-lis made in 18 karat gold, and the exclusive 1900 Louis XIII Time collection: Tribute to the City of Lights medallion. The experience, of course, begins the moment the box is merely viewed: made from champagne gold, special medals on each corner commemorate an important aspect of the 1900 Parisian lifestyle: the essence of Art & Handcrafts, Iconic Architecture, City of Lights, and La Parisienne, taken directly from the Monnaie illustrations.
This exquisite blend of eaux-de-vie and glasswork is the perfect example of quality and glamour presented by Louis XIII, a cognac that, like the homonymous king, is synonymous with grandeur and elegance. The special edition Louis XIII Time Collection: Tribute to City of Lights -1900 is a precious opportunity to enjoy the best the French house has to offer, with a unique Parisian touch.
