Lutetia Paris, a founding member of The Set Collection, reopened its legendary doors in 2018, embarking on a new chapter in the storied history of this iconic Parisian hotel. Located at 45 Boulevard Raspail in the enchanting St. Germain-des-Prés area of the Rive Gauche, the hotel was inaugurated in 1910 by the Boucicaut family, founders of Le Bon Marché. Acquired by The Set, known for its sensitive and transformative restoration of historic properties, the hotel underwent an ambitious renovation that restored it to its rightful place among the grand hotels of the city. Within a year of its reopening, Lutetia Paris earned the coveted “Palace” status from the French Ministry of Tourism, maintaining this prestigious position as the only hotel in the Rive Gauche with such acclaim.
The Set entrusted the renowned architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte and his team with the restoration and renovation of this legendary Parisian landmark, aiming to infuse contemporary design while preserving its unique heritage and charm. The project involved a delicate balance, including modifications to the ground floor layout and the creation of a new courtyard to allow natural light to flood the iconic building. The interior design presented a complex and exhilarating challenge, merging elements of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Wilmotte revived hidden treasures and reinvented what no longer existed, collaborating with esteemed artisans to restore stained glass, decorative paintings, frescoes, mosaics, and sculptures. This meticulous and respectful renovation transcended mere architectural restoration, becoming a journey of memory, history, and emotion.
Hotel Lutetia boasts 184 keys spread across seven floors, including 47 suites. This figure has been significantly reduced from the original total of 233, allowing for larger rooms and more convenient configurations. The hotel features eight exclusive suites, including a presidential suite and two penthouses with private terraces of up to 70 m², offering breathtaking 360-degree views of Paris. Since its opening, Lutetia has initiated collaborations with renowned figures in the worlds of art, fashion, and cinema to design exclusive suites. The first of these, the ‘Penthouse St Germain by Coppola,’ was designed in collaboration with legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, a regular visitor to Lutetia. This suite honors its magical location on the Rive Gauche and Coppola’s cinematic artistry, adorned with selected artwork from his personal collection and unique movie memorabilia.
Following closely was the ‘Suite Parisienne by Isabelle Huppert.’ Epitomizing intelligence, freedom, and elegance, Huppert’s suite draws inspiration from haute couture and resembles a chic Parisian apartment, infused with significant mementos from the actress. In line with its history as a societal landmark, Hotel Lutetia features several unique spaces for gathering, entertaining, and enjoying life. Perhaps the most iconic is the ‘Brasserie Lutetia,’ the hotel’s renowned restaurant, where the city has gathered over the years. With its storied past and modern elegance, Lutetia Paris stands as a testament to the timeless allure of Parisian luxury, inviting guests to experience a unique blend of history, artistry, and contemporary sophistication.
