Life, like many things, is a unique occurrence. Every choice, every moment, even the mere fact of having been born makes us all human beings into unique, one-of-a-kind people that shall never be seen again. A lover of beauty and life itself, the acclaimed portrait artist Hom Nguyen teamed up with Franck Muller, the famed watchmaking house, to create a unique piece that blends creativity and craft quite artfully.

Hand drawn over the black dial of a Cintrée Curvex TM with a tourbillon at 6 o’clock, the portrait consists of a boy’s face looking towards the sky. The movement provides an additional dimension: no less than a Double Mystery, it has the peculiarity of telling time using a pair of rotating disks instead of hands. Only when the disks are situated at 12 o’clock does the drawing align itself into its rightful shape, thus creating a piece that is both recurring and ephemeral: the passage of time encounters the uniqueness of life. Life transcends through the making of art: a series of portraits of what was and what is. This watch, one of Hom Nguyen’s most coveted masterpieces, is a memento of the fleeting instants that compose our day to day.  It was first exhibited at the World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie, in a box specifically designed for it: a precious hand-decorated case that is painted with the faces of the children that Nguyen met in Cambodia, and who were the inspirers of the piece. It will be on exhibition for a year before going to its rightful owner, where it will surely become the jewel of an exquisite private collection.
